Summary

The Maintenance Technician works closely with the Facilities Manager to perform general maintenance and upkeep for all Charlotte Rescue Mission facilities, including buildings, grounds, vehicles, and systems.  The Maintenance Technician is tasked with ensuring good stewardship and management of our two campuses and Recovery Living properties and will work across multiple departments to provide a safe and habitable environment for our residents and staff.  In addition, the Maintenance Technician will supervise vendors, residents, and volunteers assigned to work in this area. Some evening/weekend work is required, as well as being on call for emergencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with planned maintenance and janitorial upkeep of buildings, systems, and vehicles.
  • Respond to all work requests in a timely manner, making decisions with the Facilities Manager about prioritizing and outsourcing. 
  • Assist with maintaining general upkeep at Beaty Center, Dove’s Nest, Community Matters Café, and Recovery Living properties.
  • Train, supervise and assist residents assigned to the Life Skills program in the Facilities Department.
  • Work with vendors and contractors to assess needs and obtain estimates.
  • Assist with office moves and other room set-up requests, working with IT as needed. 
  • Oversee the maintenance shop, tools, and supply inventory.
  • Oversee the janitorial upkeep of the core program facilities.
  • Coordinate with volunteer groups on facilities projects and provide oversight when needed.
  • Available and able to respond to emergencies in an appropriate and timely fashion.
  • After-hours on-call work is required on rotational basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Knowledge

  • Six years’ experience with basic carpentry, landscaping, janitorial, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems
  • Extensive knowledge of facility housekeeping procedures                           

Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and facilities management software.

Abilities

  • Ability to work in a recovery environment with residents and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to work well with contractors, vendors, and volunteers
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and carry weight up and down stairs
  • Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time and to climb stairs
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to pass DMV check to operate CRM vehicles
